Master the rules for adjective declension in German - one of the most important grammar topics for fluent communication.
Adjectives are words that provide more information about a noun. They describe qualities, characteristics, or states of being.
Der Computer ist neu.
The computer is new.
Die Ausstellung ist interessant.
The exhibition is interesting.
Es ist ein langweiliges Buch.
It is a boring book.
If the adjective comes after the noun it describes, it doesn't change - just like in English!
Der Computer ist neu.
The computer is new. (no ending added)
Die Ausstellung ist interessant.
The exhibition is interesting. (no ending added)
If the adjective is placed before the noun, you must add an ending. The ending depends on three factors:
Der Computer ist neu. → Es ist ein neuer Computer.
The computer is new. → It is a new computer. (-er ending for masculine)
Die Ausstellung ist interessant. → Es ist eine interessante Ausstellung.
The exhibition is interesting. → It is an interesting exhibition. (-e ending for feminine)
Das Buch ist langweilig. → Es ist ein langweiliges Buch.
The book is boring. → It is a boring book. (-es ending for neuter)
